Our Philosophy

At Complete Childcare our ultimate aim is to provide children with a stimulating, fun and caring environment in which they will thrive and develop their own individual personalities.

All of our nursery rooms are bright and fresh with a wide range of resources allowing children the opportunity to explore and learn at their own pace. Our secure outdoor play areas allow children to extend their learning to the nursery gardens as well as use up some of their energy.

Each nursery room has a quiet rest area where the children can enjoy a peaceful sleep or just relax and take time out.

Our nurseries are visited and certified by Ofsted, the body responsible for maintaining and monitoring our nursery standards.

Our Staff

We take a great deal of care with the recruitment of our staff, not only ensuring they have the highest childcare qualifications but also for their genuine love of children and their ability to fit into the nursery team. All staff have a CRB check.

All of our nursery rooms are run by experienced, qualified staff who have obtained their NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification at college or within our own company training department. The majority of senior staff including the management team have worked with us for over 10 years and are able to offer advice and experience to the rest of our dedicated staff.

All of our rooms are staffed in line with child ratios set out in the Children’s Act and Ofsted guidelines.

Working in Partnership with Parents

We build positive and strong relationships with our parents and actively encourage you to be involved in the day to day running of our nurseries. We offer parents the opportunity to come in at any time to see their children and believe this open door policy allows us to communicate more effectively with you.

Each nursery room assigns a keyworker to your child/children who on a daily or weekly basis can tell you how your child has enjoyed their day. In all of our 0-2 rooms the children take home a daily activity sheet, which details how your little one has been and records any information you may need.

Older children take home weekly home-books or sheets where observations are recorded and used to plan the following week’s activities according to your child’s individual needs and interests. In all of our nursery rooms we use observation to aid our planning of resources and activities.

Parents meetings take place twice yearly for all of the children, where you can talk to your child’s keyworker in detail about your child’s development, meet other parents socially, and share views about how we develop the nursery environment. Of course, you’re very welcome just to enjoy an informal chat with our room staff or Nursery Manager when you come to the nursery.

By having daily dialogue we aim to take away any areas of concern you may have and we encourage you to talk to the senior staff and manager if you feel unhappy about any aspect of our nursery settings. Equally, we’d love to hear your positive thoughts on what we’re getting right, so we can do more of it. By talking to staff promptly any problems are quickly aired and resolved. Parents always have the right to contact Ofsted directly if they wish – the details can be found on the parent’s noticeboard in each nursery.

Introducing Your Child to the Nursery

Once a starting date has been agreed and your child has been registered with us, we like to arrange a series of initial visits. These visits are all free of charge. The Nursery Manager will want to spend some time with you to understand your child, their dietary requirements, any allergies or illnesses, and any personal preferences that you may have.

Parents normally spend at least part of the first visit in the Nursery, the length of time varies depending on how your child reacts to their new surroundings.

Expectant parents are also encouraged to view the Nursery to get to know the staff who will look after their baby. Some children take to Nursery life immediately, and some take a little longer to settle. Others may become unsettled at a later stage. All of our staff are used to dealing with such situations and will wish to discuss ways of providing extra help during the settling-in period, which may take a few weeks.

Parents of young babies are encouraged to share with staff full details of the baby’s routine including the amount of each feed and the babies sleep pattern. In line with Government guidelines, all babies in our nurseries are put to sleep on their backs.

Nutrition

The nursery offers a breakfast toast club each morning from 8am - 9am, lunch and afternoon tea. We use careful planning so that your child has the benefit of a healthy, balanced diet during their day. We use seasonal products where possible and our chef develops and changes the menu so that your child has the opportunity to try new tastes whilst their taste buds and sense of adventure are developing.

Our chef is highly trained in child nutrition and food safety. We see mealtimes as an important part of our day. All children (with the exception of very young babies) enjoy lunch with the staff – we hope this will be a social occasion with our staff acting as role models.

We cater for special dietary requirements including religious requirements and allergies or intolerances. We would ask that you discuss your child’s requirements. Mealtimes are about learning with the manager so that we respect your wishes. From time to time you may need to update your child’s preferences, and we encourage you to do this as and when you need to.

Learning and Development

Each of our nurseries follow the Birth to Three matters guidelines and our Foundation Stage rooms work towards the stepping stones provided within the 6 early learning goals devised by the National Curriculum.

We support all of our planning through children’s individual observations and where appropriate free choice of activities in order to offer the children independence as well as adult-led activities.

Daily observations are used, both written and photographic, and are available at all times for parents to see.

Your child’s development is recorded daily for the younger children and weekly in parent home books for our older children, enabling parents to contribute their own comments.

We believe that children learn best and flourish in an atmosphere where fun and enjoyment are the order of the day and give your child a strong base on which to develop future skills.

What you will need to bring along

Almost all of the things your child will use at the nursery are provided; nappies, wipes and lotions as well as bottles, towels, flannels, painting overalls and all consumables.

We offer and provide several brand formula milks – please let the Nursery Manager know your preference. If we are unable to offer the brand you require, we kindly ask that you provide your own milk so that your baby’s diet is consistent.

If you are a Mother who is breastfeeding you are very welcome to visit the nursery to feed your baby or if this is not possible, to bring in supplies of your own milk for them.

We ask that all children have a pair of slippers that they can leave at the nursery to wear when they are inside. We also ask that each child brings two changes of clothing including pants, a warm coat and a pair of Wellington boots. For the summer months a sun hat and sun protection cream are required.

Babies often require several changes of clothing and you are welcome to bring these together with any personal items e.g. comforter, prescription creams or lotions.

Sometimes your child will have special feeding requirements. We are very flexible and would ask that you discuss this with the Nursery Manager.

We prefer that the children do not bring sweets or expensive toys to the nursery. The nursery cannot accept responsibility for the loss of or damage to items brought to the nursery.

Our Policies In Brief

Child Protection Policy

Complete Childcare is committed to the welfare and protection of all the children in our care, and it is our duty to protect children from harm and neglect by ensuring that concerns about their safety are properly investigated by trained staff.

All of our staff understand and abide by the Company’s detailed Child Protection Policy which in turn is implemented and directed by the Local Safeguarding Childrens Boards. All relevant information and contact details are held at the nurseries. Each of our nurseries has its own appointed Child Protection Officer Policies may differ slightly according to which area the nursery operates. Each nursery operates its Child Protection policy in line with current Government guidelines.

Complaints Procedure

It is Complete Childcare’s Policy that all parents are aware of the procedure to follow should they have to make a complaint.

If a parent has concerns regarding the care and wellbeing of their child or are concerned about a particular incident, then they are advised to speak to the senior of the room. If after speaking to the room senior and matters have not been resolved, parents should then speak to the nursery manager. It is the responsibility of the room seniors to ensure that managers are aware of any concerns parents may have. Parents are made aware during their Introductory Visit that all matters unresolved by a nursery manager may then be reported to a member of senior management.

Parents are aware that they can contact Ofsted at any time and speak directly to a member of the Berkshire team.

Staff are reminded that all complaints are completely confidential and should not be discussed with anyone.

Equal Opportunities Policy

Complete Childcare provides equal opportunities in a positive manner to ensure that all of our staff value and respect the different racial origins, religions, cultures and languages of the all the children and parents in our care.

Every child is valued as an individual without racial or gender stereo typing and are encouraged to develop positive attitudes to differences of race, culture, language and gender. This also applies to children with disabilities or Special Educational Needs.

The resources, activities and individual room planning are organised in such a way as to reflect this policy.

Complete Childcare will seek to recruit the most suitable candidate for any post taking into account qualifications and experience. It is the policy of the company as well as good practice to ensure that it’s most important resource – its staff are treated in a fair and effective way. No employee shall be less fairly treated because of race, sex, disability or gender preference.

Medication Policy

It is Complete Childcare’s policy that only prescribed medication, which is clearly labelled for your child, can be administered by a senior member of staff whilst your child is at nursery.

Parents must sign the medicine form at the start of the day with the date, time, name of medication and quantity to be given. It will then be stored securely in a locked cupboard or refrigerated if appropriate and administered by a Senior member of staff and witnessed. Parents will then be required to sign the medication form to confirm that they have been informed of their child’s last dose.

If on-going medication is required e.g. for asthma, then we ask parents to sign our Asthma awareness form. It is the parent’s responsibility to keep staff/management informed of any changes to their child’s medication or dosage.

In addition if a child develops a high temperature whilst at nursery, ONLY with parent’s prior consent in writing are we able to administer a single dose of Calpol. The nursery ensures that parents are contacted first however written consent allows the nursery to administer Calpol if parents cannot be contacted. Should a child’s health not improve or deteriorate, parents are expected to collect their child from nursery.

Behaviour Policy

Complete Childcare strongly believes that children thrive in an environment where adults adopt a positive and consistent approach to managing children’s behaviour. A fun and exciting place which allows children to learn, explore and laugh.

In each of our nurseries we have a trained behaviour co-ordinator who is skilled to give advice to staff and parents in issues of behaviour.

We ensure that all of our staff receive basic ‘in-house’ training and are very clear of children’s individual expectations from this they are able to provide a positive environment with clear boundaries for each of the children that is both manageable and constant.

We work closely with our parents and encourage your comments and support in a positive way.

Security

Security is of utmost importance and all outside areas are secure and checked daily. Each nursery has a front door policy and a key word policy if persons other than parents or guardians collect your child.

Health & Safety

Each nursery has its own named Health & Safety Officer and as well as daily checks in individual areas of the nurseries we undertake regular risk assessments.

All staff receive in-house training and attend external courses as and when required.

Special Educational Needs Policy

Statement of Intent

Complete Childcare Limited welcomes children with Special Educational Needs.

Prior to admission of such a child into one of our Nurseries, we will try to consult with any professionals involved with the child, to find out if we can meet all the child’s needs.

Following the consultation, the building, the equipment and the staffing will be assessed to find out what adaptations, if necessary, may be required to accommodate the child.

Each Nursery needs to give consideration to children with Special Needs, and on admission be aware of access, facilities and the staff’s knowledge to deal with the child’s needs.

After admission, the daily routine will be maintained but constantly monitored to adapt to all the child’s needs.

Complete Childcare Limited will make every effort to attend external case meetings to ensure that plans and targets are maintained and that they are being achieved.

Complete Childcare Limited will make every effort possible to meet the needs of anyone wishing to use their facilities and offer them equality of opportunity.
